I think that Tyler Lyon does a fantastic job on this track. Due to timing issues he was replaced by Evalyn Awake vocalist, Tyler Lyon. This track was originally suppose to feature Corey Taylor, lead vocalist for Slipknot. Then the album moves into some more serious material with "Love 2 Dislike Me" (5/5). This track is a good one to crank up and bob your head to, but I'm afraid after several listens it will start to get monotonous. The next track is one of the two posse cuts from the album, "With The BS" (3.5/5). System of a Down front man, Serj Tankian, lends his vocals to the chorus and the result is one of the standout tracks on the album. I didn't think he'd be able to top the album opener from Killer ("Like Yeah"), but he did. The album kicks off with the best album opener that Tech has released thus far with "Straight Out The Gate" (5/5). That is definitely not the case with Something Else. Looking back, I would consider All 6's and 7's to be a collection of great songs, but there wasn't any cohesion that held the songs together as an album. There is definitely a distinction between a great album and a collection of great songs. Tech has really outdone himself here, I've only listened to this album a few times but I hold this up as my favourite Tech album. Although this is better than most albums out there, there isn't enough here to hold one's attention for long. Most current artists struggle to release two good albums in their entire careers. This won't harm his lucrative career as he is the hardest working and most consistent rap artist out there. While there are a few notable tracks, there just isn't anything that makes you take notice as a Tech album usually does. It's the lack of stand-out tracks that are synonymous with Tech that act as the straw that broke this camel's back. Album filler such as the Big Scoob featured unimaginative `With the BS', the grating `Dwamn' and the disappointingly middle-of-the-road Cee Lo-featured `That's My Kid' weigh the album down tremendously but are not fatal. Yes, the album was a lot more cohesive and had a tighter concept than the schizophrenic All 6s and 7s, but the raw unpredictability and noir tone were sadly missing. One may be left with the impression that his heart wasn't really in this project. SE loses steam with bland production and a lack of hunger that his previous work had. The footsteps sounding beat of `Priorities' was a pleasant surprise as I didn't have high hopes due to The Game featuring on it. The latter showcasing the underrated talents of Twisted Insane, Snow Tha Product and Wrekonize. The organ-fuelled single, `Straight out the Gate', which featured Serj Tankian from A System of a Down showed promise as did the infectious strip club anthem `So Dope'. My reason for the relatively low score is solely based on quality of which should be high considering his calibre. Some long-time fans may balk at his move towards the mainstream, but `being mainstream' doesn't bother me and shouldn't decide on how `good' an album is. Of all his albums (I have them all), this is my least favourite. He has kept a constant presence with a release almost every year for the last decade and has remained fairly consistent with the quality of the material. One has to admire Tech for being one of the hardest working artists in the industry.
